What a start to the New Year when the LGRS team chalked up a double at Turffontein Inside Course on 1st January 2015.
West We Go opened proceedings by winning the first race on the card. In spite of her poor draw, the daughter of Way West went around runners and dictated throughout, under a good ride from Randal Simons in the 1000m Maiden Plate for fillies and mares.
Owner, Mr. Zeyn Kirsten, informed the LGRS team that he could not make the trip up from Durban on New Years Day, when requested to do so by the LGRS team a week ago. After the filly went to post, Louis called Zeyn and insisted that he have a bet on the filly, who was then on offer at odds of 20 to 1. Mr. Zeyn Kirsten has been wonderfully patient with West We Go and this was the first win in his colours. The LGRS team wishes him many more and thanks him for his trust.
Later in the day, Doing It For Dan got up to win over 1000m in a MR92 handicap under the masterful riding of legendary jock, Piere “Striker” Strydom, who never bothered with the stick, in spite of only getting up to win late in the race.
Doing It For Dan is another winner for LGRS and breeders Highlands Stud. Anthony Maroun has brought his young son Kaden into racing and Doing It For Dan is the youngster’s horse. Kaden follows SA racing avidly on Tellytrack, watches racing and replays and studies form. The passion for the Sport of Kings is written all over the young, third generation racing enthusiast!
The LGRS team thanks Mr. Zeyn Kirsten and Mr. Anthony Maroun for their trust and support.
