Take a racehorse with top ability and never say die attitude and put the most prolific jockey in the history of SA racing on top and you are set for a thrilling race, even though your horse is carrying 61kg, conceding weight all round and the race is run in heavy/soft going.
The horse was Trip Tease, the 4yo son of Trippi (USA) and the jockey was Piere Strydom. The race was the Grade 3 Lebelo Handicap and it was run at Turffontein on Saturday 3rd January 2015.
Having his first run for new owner, Mario Ferreira, Trip Tease had it all to do at the weights and looked beaten with 200m to go, as the light weights to whom he conceded 9kg put him uner pressure from the early parts of the race, thus forcing Trip Tease to “carry” his 61kg.
Trip Tease fought back gamely under the balanced and determined urgings of Piere Strydom, to get up in the last stride, at the winners post, to win a thriller. After the race, Piere Strydom commented that Trip Tease, “refuses to be beaten”, as he praised his mounts sheer determination to get past his ivals in the final few meters of the race.
The ride by Piere Strydom was nothing but poetry in motion and the ride once again reminds one just why, exactly, Piere Strydom’s riding nickname is “Striker”’
Trip Tease will now be prepped for the R1M Betting World Flying Championships (Grade 1) on 24th January 2015 at Kenilworth.
The LGRS team extends their sincere thanks to Mario Ferreira and his racing manager Des Gonsalves, for the support of the yard and trust in the team.
