The Janse Van Rensburg family must have sung their Christmas carols with extra gusto on Christmas Eve when their 3yo gelding Shepherd's Song won on Thursday 24th December, 2013 at Vaal Sand over 1200m.
Deon Sampson had Shepherd's Song well placed after overcoming a wide draw and asked the question late in the race, as Shepherd's Song responded to the line.
This win makes it 2 in a row for Shepherd's Song and yet another "Sarel picked" horse to do well.
Over the years, Sarel has shown his eye for a decent horse, without having to spend a fortune to find it.
